Life is like a Mail Box ...

In many ways, living a full life can be likened to checking the mail box. What do I mean by that?

Well, when you check the mail, you will find one of three things, or one of three types of letters. These types of letters include:

1. Bills
2. Brochures
3. Blue Ink

Let's look at each one of these in turn.

In relation to bills, we all know what these are. It sucks when we get them, and they can include everything from school fees, to the phone bill to the electricity or the Internet bill. Yuk. What is your mental approach to bills. Obviously, it is one of negativity and avoidance. Sometimes, you might not (or I don't at times) even open them until a later date. Really, we hate getting them.

The thing with bills is that they have to be done, you have no choice (unless you would like to have your phone cut off or be visited by a debt collector). They could be called the need to do items. Yes, you can put them off, but the sooner that you do these, the sooner you will have them out of the way. Great. But, it is hard to approach paying bills with any sort of enthusiasm, isn't it? Well, maybe. But what if you could change your approach, and enjoy the experience. Think about how you would feel if you approached bill paying with a positive attitude, and you were thankful for the great service that you have received (or will received). What about thinking about the fact that you have got enough money to pay your bills. Remember that some people don't have enough money to pay their debts. That must be very stressful.

Now, in life, there are things that you just need to do. Going to work, getting up early, dealing with troublesome customers, for example are some things that you might consider as need to do items. Just think of how much easier these things (or what ever the need to dos are in your life) would be, if you just changed your attitude. To do that, you need to focus on the positive aspects of the need to dos. In my life, the need to dos include getting up very early every morning to exercise. Tough. Now, I can be positive about my fitness, the sun rise, other people in the gym, all sorts of things.

In life, you need to say 'bring it on to the need to dos.'

Now to the brochures. How do you treat them. Well, you either loathe them or love them. Some people either throw them in the bin on the way inside, or they stock pile them ready to be read from cover to cover (like my lovely wife does), sometimes regardless of whether or not they need something. Regardless, though, of how you treat them, brochures have got many glossy photos of items, gadgets or furniture that you could go out and purchase, and maybe save some money, if you purchase while they are on sale. So, in some ways, they are the nice to do items. The way to approach these, is to plan them into your life, do them at regular intervals, and use them as a reward for when you reach your goals or objectives.

Now, in life, there are things that are nice to do. Getting a facial, eating a chocolate, finishing work early, for example, are all things that are nice to do. Make sure that you make time to do all of these things, and others that make your life worth living. The other trick with the nice to do things is to do them in moderation. Do not over indulge, and use restraint.
In life, you say 'when will I make time to do the nice to dos.'
Finally, there are the blue ink letters. Blue ink letter refer to everything else that you get in the mail. These include letters from friends, invitations or cards for special occasions. These are the most fun things that you will see in the mail box. You get excited when you see a letter or an invitation from an old friend. Sometimes, especially in the case of an invitation, you might need to RSVP. But, do you do that straight away. Generally not. See, the thing about blue letters, is that not only are they the nicest letters to receive, but they generally mean the most to you. Blue ink letters are generally to do with relationships and friends and family. Guess what, sometimes you don't treat blue ink letters with that much importance. You do not always act oN them immediately, and return the letter, or send the RSVP. But, you should. The blue ink letters should be the next to do items. The way to approach the nice to do items is to just do it. Motivate yourself, take action and make it happen. Just do it. There is no other way to say it. No sugar coating. Tonight, plan what you are going to do tomorrow. If you don't, you will forget or put it off further.
Now, in life, there are things that are next to do. Those things include to keep building relationships, keep spending time with family and to stay focused on the things that are important to you in life. It might be to keep building your business or to prepare for that meeting. See, the longer you put these things off, the more likely that you won't do them. That is sad, as you should understand that the next to dos are the ones that will add the most fulfillment an satisfaction to your life.
In life you say 'just do it (get sponsored by Nike) to the next to dos.'
So, it is time to make more things happen in your life by saying bring it on, when can I do that and it is time to just do it.

Time to start again

During 2008, I wrote a weekly article for the Gladstone Observer (the local rag) that included the stories of normal people that have achieved amazing things in life.

Those stories were published in a book, during 2009, and the book was titled "How to Get Life Results." You can purchase a copy from my site http://www.antonguinea.com.au/, if you wish to.

The book is a great read, and it includes the stories of people from former drug addicts to cancer survivors to a Catholic Bishop.

During 2010, I am going to commence writing those stories again, and you will be able to find them here on this blog. They will again be publised in a book, and this blog will keep you informed of the progress of the publishing.

Enjoy the blog, and have fun.
